If you do not qualify for Legal Aid, we understand that clients want to know exactly what they are paying, therefore we clearly state that we offer a fixed charge per mediation session.
Our charge rates for mediation are mainly based on a Fixed Fee cost, however, if we are required to do any work outside of mediation sessions this will be charged at the following hourly rates, which are dependent on the nature of your matter;
- A combination of issues, for example; children, separation, matrimonial, property issues etc. £192 Inc VAT
This also includes the preparation of any summary documents (some other mediation services will charge you extra for this).
Each session lasts for 1 ½ hour. Our experience is that this is sufficient however if you wish to extend the session this can be done by agreement, although we find that a maximum of one and a half hours is enough for any session.
The average is about 2-4 sessions but it is YOUR process and it is voluntary. It also depends on the issues that need to be discussed.
A compromise reached through mediation can cost much less than using solicitors and/or courts, particularly where there are contentious issues. it also keeps the lines of communication open and we believe this is very important, especially when there are children.
Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM)
You will have to each attend a separate MIAM before mediation starts. If you or the other party do not qualify for Legal Aid the initial mediation assessment meeting prior to mediation starting will be £90.00 plus VAT (£108.00) for a MIAM per person. The MIAM would normally last for 30- 45 minutes. For more information regarding MIAMs click here.
